Ahmedabad: Gujarat's senior leader and former Chief Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela has suddenly become active before the assembly by-elections and local body elections. He is currently giving his opinion about many matters, be it the Farmers Bill of the Central Government or the prohibition policy of the Gujarat Government. Now recently he has claimed that Gujarat tourism is hollow due to prohibition. He has also said that he has consumed liquor before coming to politics, but on the instructions of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, he completely stopped the consumption of alcohol and beer.

He went on to say that, "The policy of prohibition of alcohol has increased the business of corruption and intoxicants in the state". He believes that Gujarat can go much further in the field of tourism but due to prohibition of alcohol, it has become hollow now. He said that youth go-to Udaipur, Abu, Daman Diu and consume alcohol. Alcohol prohibition has increased the consumption of hash, opium, hemp among the youth of Gujarat. The illegal smuggling of liquor has led to massive corruption in the police department and the lives of many youths are stuck in the illegal liquor smuggling business.

He has also promised that farmers will be given free water for irrigation in the fields and will not charge electricity bills from the meter according to horsepower so that they will not get hefty electricity bills. Earlier Vaghela had opposed the farmers' bills related to the central government saying that if it is for farmers, then why the bill did not provide for the minimum support price for the company and the traders as well.
