NEW DELHI: The stock market began with a slump on Thursday. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange plunged 81.12 points, or 0.6 percent, to close at 39031.62. The Nifty fell 25.00 points, or 0.2 percent, to open at 11666.50 points.

The stock markets opened today with 229 shares bullish, with 380 shares falling, while the 36-share rate remained unchanged. On Thursday, the rupee started firmer. The rupee strengthened 20 paise, to 69.48 against the dollar.  The market has been witnessing such a situation for the past several days.
