Shashi Tharoor attacks Modi government says, 'Citizenship Amendment Bill should be passed..'

Thiruvananthapuram: Recently senior Congress leader and former Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has said that Modi Government has been attacked by the Citizenship Amendment Bill. He said that its passage would mean the victory of the views of Mohammad Ali Jinnah over the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. By granting citizenship on the basis of religion, India will become the 'Hindu version of Pakistan'. The Congress leader alleged that the BJP government wants to separate 'one community'. Shashi Tharoor said that by granting citizenship on the basis of religion, India's status will fall to the 'Hindutva version of Pakistan. He said, "If the Citizenship Amendment Bill is passed, I am confident that the Supreme Court will not allow blatant violations of the basic principles of the Constitution."

According to sources, the Congress leader alleged that the BJP government wants to separate 'one community' and is refusing to give political asylum to its members like other communities suffering under the same circumstances. He said that it is only a selfish political move to isolate a particular community from India and deny its citizenship.
