New Delhi: Sohail Kaskar, nephew of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who was estimated to have been extradited from the US to India, managed to flee to Pakistan via Dubai. According to media reports, sources said Sohail's arrival in Pakistan is seen as a major setback for the Indian government's efforts to bring him to India. Sohail is the son of Dawood's late brother Noora. Noora died of kidney failure in Pakistan in 2010.

US officials had alerted the Indian government in October 2018 that Sohail was an Indian citizen as his passport had been issued from Mumbai. He has completed his sentence in a US prison. After that he is free. Police said that a person arrested for any crime in any country is sent to his country of origin after completion of his sentence. India was trying to extradite him through a mutual legal aid treaty between India and the US. But security agencies have recently received information from intelligence sources that Sohail has reached Pakistan.

Sohail Kaskar, along with three others, was arrested by the US Drug Enforcement Administration in 2014 for plotting narco-terrorism, helping a foreign terror organization. The trio was nabbed from spain in June 2014 at the request of the US government. He was arrested by the New York Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Strike Force in DEA after his extradition to the US.
