JAMMU:  In a shocking incident, a  28-year-old man allegedly killed his father in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday after an argument over an unspecified matter, according to police.

A police officer said Joginder Kumar attacked his father Gopi Ram in his sleep with a hammer on his head at their home in Ramnagar's Kagot hamlet, adding that Ram died on the spot.

He claimed that on Monday night, before going to bed, the father and son had a fight about something. 

According to the official, a police unit raced to the scene after receiving information about the occurrence and apprehended the suspect.

Citing the preliminary investigation, it is known that  Kumar was a drug user who had regular fights with his family, the official said.
