Lucknow: A shooting incident occurred at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Uttar Pradesh, leaving three individuals injured. The incident transpired on the night transitioning from Monday to Tuesday, and as of now, the injured parties are reported to be in stable condition. According to a report, the shooting incident involved an ex-student of AMU named Sadiq Hasan, along with two local students, Firoz and Abdullah, as well as 11 unidentified individuals. The victims were initially in BM Hall but were moved to Sir Syed (North) Hall where the shooting took place.
Vijay Singh, the in-charge of the Civil Lines police station, confirmed that the shooting incident occurred on the AMU campus on Monday. Police sources indicate that the shooting was a result of a "fight for dominance on the university campus." Local authorities are working to initiate formal legal proceedings in response to the shooting incident, and appropriate actions will be taken accordingly, according to the police. In the wake of the shooting, the proctorial board at AMU has been activated to address the situation and maintain order on the campus.
Notably, this incident follows another shooting that took place in the canteen located in front of ward number 11 of Jawaharlal Nehru (JN) Medical College at AMU earlier in September. The police determined that the earlier incident stemmed from a dispute related to a financial transaction in the canteen. The canteen owner reported that a person named Adnan Golden had been demanding Rs 50,000 per month and had issued threats when the money was not provided. Subsequently, Adnan Golden and his associates arrived at the canteen and opened fire, resulting in a case being registered based on the owner's complaint.
