According to the media report, after the notification of the Citizenship Amendment Act was issued, the Home Department had directed all the District Magistrates to identify the refugees in their district and send a report. After the cabinet meeting on Monday, Energy Minister and State Government Spokesperson Shrikant Sharma told the media that according to the information they have received from the Home Department, so far about 32 thousand refugees have been identified in 21 districts of the state.

These refugees have come from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The work of identifying the refugees in the state is still going on. Pamphlets are being distributed in Hindi and Urdu languages and are urging people to register.
