New Delhi [India], Feb 12: In an exciting experience at the Alur Cricket Stadium, Punjab secured a four-run prevail upon Karnataka, the architect of Punjab innings which was Shubman Gill who scored an unbeaten 123. In a match lessened to 42 overs for each side because of a wet outfield, Gill's knock was the foundation of Punjab's aggregate of 269, with helpful commitments from Mandeep Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Gurkeerat Singh Mann. Mandeep was engaged with a 125-run remain for the second wicket with Gill after Manan Vohra was dismissed by Vinay Kumar for a first-ball duck. Yuvraj and Gurkeerat then came up with breezy knock to help Punjab finish with a good total. In reply, Karnataka were reduced to 61 for 3 before KL Rahul and Pavan Deshpande were involved in a 100-run partnership to revive the chase. Punjab managed to hit back with quick wickets but Rahul went on to register a fine 107 to keep Karnataka in the hunt. Karnataka needed 21 off 17 when Barinder Sran dismissed Rahul. Siddarth Kaul and Sran bowled a couple of tight overs, which meant that Karnataka needed six for victory off the final ball. But Vinay could not pull it off, leading to Karnataka's first loss of the season, despite which they retain top spot in Group A.

Brief scores: Punjab 269/3 in 42 overs (Shubman Gill 123*, Mandeep Singh 64; Vinay Kumar 2-40) beat Karnataka 265/8 in 42 overs (KL Rahul 107, Pavan Deshpande 53; Siddarth Kaul 3-47) by 4 runs.
