Guwahati: Amidst the tension on every front adjacent to China, India is engaged in strengthening its basic facilities in these areas so that our army and resources can reach these areas without delay in times of crisis. The Siliguri Corridor and the surrounding areas, also known as Chicken Neck, have a strategic importance in connecting Northeast India with the rest of India.

The Coronation Bridge standing on the Teesta River present in the same area is looking forward for repair. North Bengal connects northeast India through this bridge. This bridge, built before independence, is now dilapidated and big cracks have occurred in it. The British built this bridge to connect Northeast India with Bengal. It is only through this bridge that the heavy equipment of the army keeps coming to the northeast. This bridge, built near the Chicken Neck Corridor, has strategic and strategic importance.

Construction of the bridge started in 1937, it was completed in 1941 at a cost of four lakhs. Due to a 6.9 magnitude earthquake on 18 September 2011, this bridge has cracked. Jadavpur University in its study found a crack of 2.5 feet in the middle of this bridge. After this, the Bengal government has banned the entry of heavy vehicles of 18 thousand tons from this bridge. However, this restriction is seen only on paper. West Bengal Tourism Minister Gautam Deb says that now a new bridge is required to be built on this river. He said that the state government has completed its role in this regard, but it is being delayed by the Center.
