Silk Smitha is one of the renowned names in the South Industry. Her life always remained in controversy. It is also said that the dirty picture of Vidya Balan is based on the life of Silk Smita. As it is very similar to her. The actress was born as Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati in a Telugu family, and was known as the queen of sensuality and a favorite among the masses in the South Indian film industry. In her long career of 17 years, She was part of several successful dance numbers and appeared in over 450 films. 

She became famous as Silk Smita in the film world. From the late 1970s to early 1990s in South Indian cinema, the magic of Silk Smitha used to speak on the heads of the audience.  She was born in a poor family. Silk left her school due to financial constraints and took up the responsibility of the house. 

She was married at the age of 14. She left her home and became a make-up artist. Silk, who started her career with small roles in films, remained unrecognized for a long time. After this, Silk worked in many adult films and did many dance numbers. There was a time when every producer wanted to caste Silk Smita in her movie.  Silk also did many films with Kamal Haasan, and Rajinikanth. 

Silk’s affair with Rajinikanth was also discussed a lot. Although Silk never gave any official statement on this. But as per some reports Rajinikanth was inclined towards silk. It was also discussed that Rajinikanth used to make marks on Silk's body with cigarettes. Silk then faced downfall in her career. 

On September 23, 1996, Smitha, 35, was found dead at her apartment in Chennai She reportedly died by suicide.  She took this drastic step due to financial burden and multiple failed relationships. During the police investigation, a handwritten letter by her was found at home. In the note the actress also reveals some secrets of her life.
