Some Really Great reasons to stay home this New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve comes laden with the highest expectations and pressure to perform. The best way to go about it is to go big or go home. So if you’ve already booked a two-way ticket out of the city (and the plummeting temperature), you’re going to be fine; but those of you who’ve missed the opportunity to book anything than don’t be dishearten, Staying in can be a lot more fun than you imagine—spend a quiet night in with someone special, ask over your closest friends for a pyjama party, or settle in for a movie marathon—here are some  good reasons why you should listen to us.

Save your money to overdo another day

The thing about New Year’s Eve is that every restaurant/ bar/ lounge/ club turns into a circus with themed events and F&B packages selling at exorbitant prices. Even your favourite neighbourhood watering hole will be unrecognizable to you. So in case, you thought you’d go out for a nice dinner accompanied with drinks in a group; you’ll have to shell out way more than you ordinarily would and for pretty much the same fare. So instead of splurging at a restaurant like the rest of the world, stay in and go out for a nice lunch the next day.

Avoid annoying traffic jams and long parking queues

Anyone who’s had the misfortune of being stuck in rows of traffic when the clock strikes 12, definitely doesn’t need more convincing; but those who haven’t should read on. Regardless of how close or far you’re heading, you will almost definitely find yourself stuck in a traffic jam. Not only is the entire city en route to a party, there’s also bound to be a lot of fog; which means that a half-hour-long car drive will end up taking at least an hour and a half. If you’re headed to a farmhouse on the outskirts, you can double that time, and get ready to pop open a bottle of bubbly in your car—coz that’s where you’ll be at the stroke of midnight.

Keep warm and watch the fireworks from the inside

If you still need more convincing, just check the weather forecast. Regardless of how many layers you’ve worn, the cold will eventually get to you, and when it does you’ll wish you’d have taken our advice. Sometimes the best way to watch the fireworks is on your TV screen at home. If the thought of your cosy drawing room still hasn’t begun to sound more appealing to you, you’re probably a snowman.

You can actually enjoy the first day of the New Year

Wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed—while your less enlightened friends are suffering from the after-effects of a night out on the town—and start off the new year on a good note. Most restaurants will be relatively crowd-free, and you won’t have to pay a heightened bill at the end of your meal.
