New Delhi: In the midst of assembly elections being held in 5 states including Uttar Pradesh, the matter of long-time non-payment of rent for their Lutyens' bungalows by Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi has come to light. According to an RTI, it has been revealed that the Gandhi family has not paid the rent for their three allotted bungalows in Delhi for a long time.

These three bungalows are located at 26 Akbar Road, 10 Janpath and Chanakyapuri. Let us tell you that the Congress has made an office in the bungalow at 26 Akbar Road and Chanakyapuri, while 10 Janpath is the residence of Sonia Gandhi. In response to the RTI given by Sujit Patel of Gujarat on 7 February 2022, the Ministry of Urban Housing has given information regarding the outstanding rent. While the rent of 26 Akbar Road bungalow is Rs 1269902 as arrears since December 2012, the rent of Chanakyapuri bungalow has not been paid since August 2013, whose outstanding amount is Rs 507911. At the same time, the rent of Sonia Gandhi's official residence 10 Janpath has also not been paid since September 2020.

BJP Mumbai spokesperson Suresh Nakhua took a jibe at this issue and wrote in his tweet that, 'Antonia Maino aka Sonia Gandhi was talking big about the payment of tickets for migrant laborers. At least earlier I would have paid the rent of my house, which is pending for one and a half years. Let us tell you that the house allotted to Congress President Sonia Gandhi is the largest in comparison to other leaders of the country. Even Sonia Gandhi's house is bigger than the Prime Minister's residence 7 Race Course (7RCR). According to the Central Public Department, the Prime Minister's residence is built on an area of 14,101 square meters, while Sonia Gandhi's residence is spread over an area of 15,181 square meters, which is much bigger than 7RCR.

Let us tell you that in Delhi, the Congress had taken possession of many bungalows in its possession. Many notices were issued in the Modi government to get them vacated. Besides the residence, the Congress has three other bungalows at 5 Raisina Road, 26 Akbar Road and C-2/109 Chanakyapuri. Of these, the bungalow on Raisina Road is with the Youth Congress, while the bungalow at 26 Akbar Road and Chanakyapuri is used for Congress work.
