New Delhi: Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi will appear before the Enforcement Directorate(ED) investigation team on July 21 in a money laundering case related to the much-touted National Herald. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been asked to appear on behalf of the investigating agency on the date. In this case, the ED team has questioned Rahul Gandhi, former Congress president and Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad seat from Kerala, for several consecutive days.

Earlier, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi was scheduled to appear before the investigating agency in June. But, Sonia had to be admitted to the hospital due to a corona infection. In such a situation, she had sought a 4-week extension from the investigating agency's team. This time is going to end on July 22.  

What is the National Herald case? 

BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy had levelled baseless allegations against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, late leader Motilal Vora, journalist Suman Dubey and technocrat Sam Pitroda in the National Herald case. He alleged that it was wrongfully acquired through Young India Ltd and that Congress leaders grabbed assets up to Rs 2,000 crores. The investigation into the case was initiated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in 2014. The Congress has been saying that the aim of Young India Limited is not to make a profit but it has been formed for charity.
