New Delhi: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is likely to step down as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to reports, former cricketer Roger Binny is the frontrunner to replace current BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly. Roger Binny was a member of Team India, which won the ODI World Cup for the first time in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. Binny is the current president of the Karnataka Cricket Association. His son Stuart Binny has also played international cricket for India.

Let us know that, the list of representatives of the state association has come for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI. Only the person included in this list can contest the BCCI elections, which also includes the name of Roger Binny. According to the information, the current officials of BCCI have also agreed on the name of Roger Binny. Contenders for all BCCI posts can file their nominations on October 11 or 12. After this, the scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on October 13. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is the 14th. Voting will be held on October 18 if there are more contenders. According to sources, BCCI secretary Jay Shah is not in the race to become the president, but he will contest back for the same post i.e. secretary.

Ganguly took over as BCCI president in October 2019. Ganguly is the 39th president of the BCCI and his tenure was only till September this year. Recently, after getting the approval of the apex court, the BCCI constitution was also amended, according to which Ganguly can continue as BCCI chief till 2025. But, now according to media reports, Ganguly is going to step down from his post and Roger Binny can replace him.  

Let us tell you that during 1979-87, Roger Binny took part in 27 Tests and 72 One Day International matches for India. He made his international debut in the year 1979 through the Bengaluru Test against Pakistan. Binny took 47 wickets in his Test career at an average of 3.63. At the same time, in ODI International, he has 77 wickets in his name at an average of 29.35. Roger Binny also contributed well with the bat for Team India. He has 830 runs in Tests and 629 runs in ODI Internationals to his name.

Let us tell you that Roger Binny's son Stuart Binny has also played cricket for Team India. When his son Stuart Binny was selected for Team India in the year 2014 while being the selector of Roger Binny, there were a lot of ruckuses. At that time it was discussed in full swing that Stuart was selected because of his father. Roger Binny had said in this regard that when his son's name came up for selection, he left the meeting and went out.
