One of the most prestigious Awards in India, the 68th  National Filmfare awards held on September 30.  The winners received the National Awards at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The 68th National Film Awards were announced on July 22 .  Veteran The National Award for Best Actor was jointly won by South Star Suriya for Soorarai Pottru and Ajay Devgn for Tanhaji. Aparna Balamurali won the Best Actress Award for her role in Soorarai Pottru. Actress  Jyothika and Suriya’s wife received the Best Feature film award for Soorari Pottru.

Jyotika, the producer of the film who received the Swarna Kamal award took to her official Instagram page and shared glimpses of the great evening. “Proud and blessed!” wrote the actress-producer, who shared pictures with husband Suriya, kids Dev and Diya, Soorarai Pottru director  Sudha Kongara and leading ladyAparna Balamurali.  

Speaking about the outfit,  Suriya attended the event in traditional lungi and his wife wore a lavender saree for the award ceremony. Photos from the ceremony showed them clicking each other's pictures from the audience as the other accepted their award.

During interaction to media personality. Suriya said, "Huge honour. Truly grateful to the National Film Award jury and the Government of India. Lot of emotions running in my mind. I've a lot of people to thank. To begin with, there is Sudha. This is her baby, The film gave a lot of hope to people in Covid times. Then, of course, I thank my wife, Jyothika. Getting goosebumps. Truly a moment which I'll never forget "

Speaking about the film Soorarai Pottru, which marked Suriya’s digital debut, had a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video. The Sudha Kongara directorial, which was originally planned as a theatrical release, later went the OTT way owing to the first wave of the pandemic. The film is now getting remade in Hindi, with Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan reprising Suriya and Aparna Balamurali’s roles, respectively.
