Team India suffered defeat in the first match of the three-match ODI series played in Lucknow on Thursday. South Africa defeated India by nine runs. For India, Sanju Samson tried his best to prevail over the game with an unbeaten 86 runs, but he could not succeed. Sanju was completing the effort, but in the meantime, he also made a mistake, which was probably one of the reasons for India's defeat.

In this match, South Africa batted first and scored 249 runs losing 4 wickets. In reply, Team India could only manage 240 runs losing eight wickets after playing the full 40 overs. Let us know that this match was reduced to 40-40 overs due to rain. Team India was chasing the target. They needed 38 runs off the last 12 balls. Sanju had set foot on the crease and it seemed that Team India would achieve this goal. But, the problem was that in the 39th over, Avesh Khan was on strike and the ball was in the hands of Kagiso Rabada. No run off the first ball. Avesh could not take a run on the second ball as well. On the third ball, Avesh played a shot in the air and the catch was dropped by Lungi Ngidi. On this shot, Avesh and Sanju took two runs, which kept the strike near Avesh. Here Sanju could have kept the strike with him by taking a single. It would also have put pressure on South Africa and allowed Sanju to play more balls, but it did not happen.

Avesh could not score any runs on the fourth ball. He was dismissed on the fifth ball. At the same time, Ravi Bishnoi hit a four on the last ball. Ravi hit this four on a free hit as the last ball was a no-ball. That is, Sanju missed the chance to play four balls by not taking a single. In such a situation, Team India needed 31 runs in the last over. If Sanju had played four balls in the previous over, perhaps fewer runs would have been needed in this over, as well as Sanju could have kept the strike in this over as well. Sanju hit a six off the first ball of the final over, then four off the next two balls. Off the fifth ball, he hit another boundary. But he could not win the team. Apart from Sanju, Shreyas Iyer scored 50 runs for Team India. No other Indian batsman could score more runs.
