New Delhi: Attacking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has alleged that south India received step-motherly treatment under the Modi government.

In an interview to news agency PTI, the Tharoor claimed that south India will side with the Congress in the Lok Sabha election 2019. He justified Congress president Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest from Wayanad saying that it sent a message that the concerns of south India will not be ignored under a Congress dispensation.

Tharoor also added, "This is partly on account of cultural factors such as the beef ban and the drive to impose Hindi as a national language, but also because of larger issues such as the uproar regarding the terms of reference of the 15th Finance Commission which has implications on the financial and political security of the southern states.”
