Varanasi: In the Teachers Legislative Council (MLC) election in Varanasi, Lal Bihari Yadav of Samajwadi Party (SP) defeated Pramod Kumar Mishra of Om Prakash Sharma faction by 936 votes. Lal Bihari has received a total of 7766 votes. While Pramod Kumar got 6830 votes. Here, Chetnarayan Singh of BJP has moved to the third position. He got just 4858 votes. Chetnarayan is also the outgoing MLC.

SP workers celebrated this by feeding each other sweets. Lal Bihari got 7248 votes and Pramod Mishra 6830 votes in voting. SP's Lal Bihari got 518 more votes when Mishra transferred votes in the final. Thus he won the election by getting 936 votes more than his opponent.

MLA Chetnarayan Singh, who has been in the teacher seat for the last 10 years, remained at the third position from the beginning to the end of counting. He could get only 4858 votes. Other candidates include Krishna Mohan Yadav 1621, Dr. Jitendra Kumar Singh Patel 783, Dharmendra Kumar 191, Dr. Farid Ansari 169, Dr. Brijesh 530, Rajni 527, Ramesh Singh 1973, Rajendra Pratap Singh 1444 , Sanjay Kumar Singh received 1001 votes.
