Lucknow: The contest has become interesting in the by-election of the Muslim-dominated Swar assembly seat. Actually, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has played the Hindu card here. Akhilesh Yadav's party has made Kshatriya caste Anuradha Chauhan its candidate for this seat. On the other hand, Apna Dal has given a ticket to Muslim candidate Shafiq Ahmad Ansari from here on account of the BJP alliance. whereas the BSP and Congress are not contesting here.

It may be mentioned that the Swar seat fell vacant due to the cancellation of the membership of former cabinet minister Azam Khan's son, Abdullah Azam. The SP has surprised everyone by fielding Anuradha Chauhan from here on the last day of nomination. Let us tell you that this seat has been held by the SP three times until now, but all three times its candidates were Muslims. In the elections so far, the BJP has also won this Muslim-majority seat five times. However, the record for winning the most number of times here is still in the name of Congress. BSP has also won here once. If we look at the elections held in the last 20 years, Nawab Kazim Ali Khan, alias Naved Miyan, was elected from here in 2002 on a Congress ticket.

In 2007, Naved Miyan was re-elected on the SP ticket, but after the formation of the BSP government, he changed sides and resigned. He reached the assembly as a BSP candidate in the by-election. In the 2012 elections, Naved Miyan again won on the Congress ticket. whereas Abdullah Azam won on the SP ticket in the 2017 and 2022 elections.
