New Delhi: Sri Lanka's economic situation is in very bad shape these days. There is inflation skyrocketing. The crisis of bankruptcy is now looming over this country. In many big cities of the Colombo Community, the public has taken to the streets. Amidst all this, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board has made a big statement about hosting the Asia Cup. Sri Lankan Cricket Board secretary Mohan de Silva has said that nothing is going wrong in Sri Lanka. There are some groups who are opposed. We are facing an economic crisis due to poor management.
He said that there is no unrest among citizens or politically. I am sure that this matter will be resolved soon. Regarding any threat to the Asia Cup, de Silva said, 'I don't think so... demonstrations are going on. Before the Asia Cup, the Australian team is going to tour Sri Lanka in June-July. We also talked to him in the ICC meeting regarding this, then he has also shown interest. Similarly, I don't think there will be any problem regarding hosting the Asia Cup.'
He further said 'The reality is that even I cannot make any firm promises in this matter, because it is a matter of the Asian Cricket Council. They have to decide on this themselves. However, we are also completely confident about conducting the Asia Cup. We know that all these things will be put to an end soon. Everything will be back to normal soon and we will be able to conduct this important tournament in a better way.' He said that the economic crisis will not have any effect on cricket.
