Guwahati: Team India, who take a long break after the West Indies series, will play their first match of the year on Sunday (5 January). Team India will start their campaign against Sri Lanka this year. The first match of the three-match T20 series between the two teams will be played at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Protests are going on in this city over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The BCCI and Assam Cricket Association (ACA) are monitoring the situation. The ACA has also said that everything is under control and the match will take place. Sri Lankan team reached Guwahati on Thursday under the leadership of Lasith Malinga. She will practice net on Friday. ACA President Romain Dutta said that, 'Police is carrying out the responsibility of security and everything is under control. Yes, it is true that there was a protest here earlier, but now the situation is under control. We have entrusted the security of the stadium and the two teams to the police and they are monitoring the situation so that the situation remains under control.

There were definitely two types of statements about Team India reaching Guwahati. According to Dutta, Team India is coming on Friday morning but Indian team management has confirmed that the team will arrive on Thursday night. Datta said on Thursday, "The Indian team will come tomorrow morning."
