Chennai: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has written a letter to Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar regarding the recent alleged attack on Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy. It seeks to find a permanent political solution to resolve the issue. A press release issued by the CM said that on July 28, 10 Kodiakarai fishermen landed at sea.

On August 1, a fisherman was shot in the middle of the sea by Sri Lankan Navy personnel in which the fisherman sustained minor injuries. He is undergoing treatment at Nagapattinam Government Hospital. "We condemn the case of the attack on the fisherman," Stalin said. He alleged that the Sri Lankan Navy was not following international law.

"We cannot remain silent on this issue and we should immediately find a permanent solution," Stalin told S Jaishankar in a letter. The incident has created unrest among the fishermen community. It is our duty to ensure that our neighboring country abides by international law. He further said that we should ensure that such cases do not come up again. Just a few days ago, members of the fishermen's association alleged that the Sri Lankan Navy cut the nets of Indian fishermen who had gone into the sea fishing.
