Jammu and Kashmir: Right to local people may get attention

The request made by the local people to ensure land, employment, social beliefs and identity in Union-ruled Jammu and Kashmir can be received. The Union Home Ministry is seriously considering the implementation of Article 371 in Jammu and Kashmir. In this context, the Home Ministry has sent a detailed proposal to the Law Department of Jammu and Kashmir and sought its opinion.

In addition to reorganizing Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, the Central Government also abolished all the provisions of Article 370 under which the old Jammu and Kashmir State had exclusive rights. Before the reorganization, no person from any other state in Jammu and Kashmir could permanently settle here and buy land. He could not even get a job in the subordinate departments of the state government. Now these restrictions have come to an end in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Political parties opposing the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir are trying to give the message to the people that now outsiders will come and occupy jobs and land here. This will erase the identity of the local people.

Regarding the matter, the administrative officials said that after the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Law Department of the state has started discussions on the issue with the concerned departments, legal experts and other parties. He said that after the dissolution of Article 370, the situation has arisen in Jammu and Kashmir and the Central Government has taken this step only to remove the doubt and fear that has arisen in the people about their rights. A report will be given to the centre soon.
