Aizwal: After the corona epidemic, now another disease has started wreaking havoc. So far, thousands of pigs have lost their lives in Mizoram due to African Swine Fever (ASF). The situation is so bad that the government of Mizoram is preparing to declare it as a disaster (African Swine Fever). State Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Dr K Beichhua told the media that CM Zoramthanga has given his consent to declare the disease as a state calamity.

The disease has affected more than 50 villages in 7 districts of Mizoram. Minister Dr. Nettle said that soon a notification declaring African swine fever as a disaster would be issued. The State Veterinary Department has released the death figures of pigs on May 25. According to the data, from March last year till May 25, more than 37 thousand pigs have died due to this disease. Due to this the local people are facing huge economic loss.

A report released on African Swine Fever states that 14,174 pigs had to be killed within the last one year to prevent this disease. The report said that from February to May 25 this year, about 3,890 pigs died. According to the report, since February this year, 3,264 pigs had to be killed to prevent African Swine Fever. Minister Dr. The nettleman said that the state government has received compensation for the pigs that died due to the disease.
