New Delhi:  President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday sent greetings to the people of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry, on their formation day.

"On the anniversary of their formation, greetings to the people of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. I send my best wishes to the people who live in these States and Union Territories for their continued progress and prosperity "In a tweet, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
Today is the state foundation day for Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. In 1956, the states of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala were created. In 1966, Haryana was established, and in 2000, the state of Chhattisgarh was separated from Madhya Pradesh.

On November 1, 1956, Kerala was created by joining Travancore, Cochin, and Malabar. 

Andhra Pradesh was created on November 1, 1956, by uniting all of Hyderabad's Telugu-speaking areas.
Karnataka was formed on November 1, 1956, Karnataka Rajyotsava Day, following the passage of the State Reorganisation Act. All of India's Kannada-speaking regions were combined to create the state of Karnataka. On November 1, 1973, the state's name had to be changed to Karnataka. Mysore State was its previous name. 
By joining the former Central Provinces of CP & Berar, Madhya Bharat, Vindhya Pradesh, and Bhopal, the State of Madhya Pradesh was created.Since 2000, November 1 has been recognised as Chhattisgarh Foundation Day. Chhattisgarh was formerly a part of Madhya Pradesh.

The state of Haryana was separated from Punjab on this date in 1966, and on November 1 the state celebrates Punjab Day to commemorate the passing of the Punjab Reorganisation Act that created the state (1966).
The Lakshadweep islands were divided from Malabar District and organised into a separate union territory for administrative purposes during the reorganisation of Indian states in 1956.

Every year on November 1, Puducherry's founding is commemorated as Liberation Day. the honours Puducherry's passage from French colonial rule to Indian rule.
