Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets at the Eden Gardens on Thursday. RR Skipper Steve Smith led the team to the victory and also achieved a personal milestone in the game as he completed 2000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

RR skipper achieved the milestone by scoring 2 runs in the match as he was two runs away from achieving the feat. Smith has been impressive for RR so far this season with 297 runs from 10 matches at an average of 42.42 and a strike rate of 114.67.

Smith was appointed the skipper of the side midway through the season after the team's poor run under Ajinkya Rahane. Smith has had a fine start as skipper winning two of his first three games in charge. 

The Australian batsman made his IPL debut in 2012 for Rajasthan where he impressed straightaway amassing 362 runs from 15 games at an average of over 40. In 2017, he captained now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants and was instrumental in leading them to the final with 472 runs from 15 matches at an average close to 40.

Talking about the match, Rajasthan cruised past KKR with the help od crucial knocks from Riyan Parag (47 off 31) and Jofra Archer (27 off 12). The visitors chased down the target of 176 runs with four balls to spare.
