Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 3 wickets in the 43rd match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. RR captain Steve Smith lauded Riyan Parag for his match-winning knock against the hosts. Despite a strong start, Rajasthan faced an early batting collapse, but fantastic innings from young Parag helped the team to win the match.
In the post-match presentation ceremony, Smith said, “We made it difficult for ourselves. We lost too many wickets in the middle section after a good start. Riyan Parag .. isn't he an impressive young man? He played very composed like a seasoned campaigner.”
Smith further praised Gopal and Archer. He said, “Great contribution from Gopal and Archer too. I thought they bowled really well with the new ball, first 7-8 overs. Oshane did well in his first game. Varun Aaron was exceptional with the new ball. The boys did a great job. There was some really good shots from DK, who played a terrific inning. Happy to get over the line,”
Talkinag about match Sanju Samson (22) and Ajinkya Rahane (34) gave a good start but a sudden batting collapse reduced the visitors to 98/5 after 12 overs and the match was drifted towards KKR. RR needed 54 in the last 5 overs. Parag (47) and Jofra Archer (27*) together added crucial 44 runs before Riyan perished in the 19th over. Archer hit a boundary and a six to conclude the match with 4 balls to spare.
