Islamabad: Pakistan is suspected of attempting to revive terrorism in the Rajouri-Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, with approximately 25-30 Pakistani terrorists believed to be hiding in the forested areas of the region, according to defense sources on Friday.
The sources indicated that this effort to rekindle terrorist activities in the area is part of a broader strategy by Pakistan and China to pressure the Indian Army to withdraw troops from the Ladakh sector and redeploy forces in the Rajouri-Poonch region.
"There is a larger game plan by the Pakistan-China nexus to not allow India to ease out of the Jammu and Kashmir sector and deploy troops on the China border, especially in the Ladakh sector, where the PLA and Indian forces have been in a standoff for the last three years now," the sources explained.
India had moved the Uniform Force of Rashtriya Rifles from the Poonch sector to Ladakh in 2020 to counter Chinese aggression as part of a rebalancing effort and to exert pressure on the PLA to match Indian strength.
According to sources, approximately 25-30 Pakistani terrorists are hiding in the upper reaches of the Poonch-Rajouri sector in a forested area with the intention of launching attacks on security forces.
Since the Uniform Force relocated to Ladakh operations, Pakistan has been sending its own terrorists from Pakistan to the region to carry out attacks against Indian troops, hoping to force India to redeploy its forces in the area.
The Indian Army recently deployed an additional brigade to counter terrorist activities and has achieved success in the region.
On Thursday evening, heavily armed terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles carrying troops in the forest area of Dera ki Gali in the Rajouri district, resulting in the death of four Army personnel and injuries to three others.
