Weather update: Strong winds likely in Delhi, average air quality index recorded poor

New Delhi: The weather department has reported dry, dust-laden winds from Rajasthan to blow over Delhi. The capital of the country is leading to a deterioration in air quality and visibility.

India Meteorological Department has recorded the average air quality index at 234 in the poor category on Wednesday at 7 am. Whereas scientists said air quality is likely to deteriorate further as strong till April 1. According to the air quality early warning system, dust transport from neighbouring states to Delhi is expected between March 30 and April 1. Yesterday, the capital recorded the high heatwave in 76 years. Today, the report says that the maximum temperatures likely to fall by 3-5 degrees°C over northwest India. Another heatwave is expected over northwest India from April 3. K Sathi Devi, head of the national weather forecasting center said “Our models are showing that similar strong winds will prevail for the next 2-3 days. There is no moisture incursion over the region. Winds are blowing from dry regions to the west and northwest."

He added that heatwave conditions over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi because of clear skies and constant solar radiation. Also, temperatures are estimated to stay as recorded and not to go up now because of the slow winds.
