At least 29 people have died in a stampede at a religious ceremony in the suburbs of Monrovia, the capital of the West African nation of Liberia. The police have informed about this. According to local media, the accident happened on Wednesday night or Thursday morning, according to local time. Police spokesman Moses Carter said the death toll could rise as these are preliminary figures. It has been told that the attack was launched by some culprits and miscreants, after which this stampede took place.

According to media reports, this case of stampede happened in New Crew Town by D. A religious gathering at Tweh Field resulted in the death of 29 persons. The religious ceremony was organized by More Grace International Ministries under the leadership of Abraham Kromah. The stampede allegedly took place when some criminals and goons from the area attacked the worshipers with axes and other deadly weapons at the crowded function. Thereafter, people started running away from the spot, which led to a stampede. The dead included 17 women, 11 children and three men.

At present, not much information has been received about the matter, but local media has said that this religious ceremony was related to the prayer of the Christian community. In Liberia it is known as the 'Crusade'. It attracts a huge crowd of people. That is why the ceremony was organized in a football field. An eyewitness named Emmanuel Grae, who was present at the scene, said that he heard the cries of the people and when the crowd had left, bodies were scattered all around. Thereafter, the bodies of the people were removed from the spot. Tension prevails in the area at present.
