Many people in the entertainment and political industries were shocked to learn of Sonali Phogat's passing on August 22 in Goa. Sonali's untimely death prompted the family to file a case and ask the Goa police to investigate the matter. According to the post-mortem report, she had "multiple blunt force injuries" throughout her body. After that, a murder case was filed under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
One more person was taken into custody in relation to Sonali's case after her PA Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh. According to a report in India's Today, Sonali's nephew had previously asserted that Sonali's assistant Sudhir Sangwan had his sights set on Sonali's property. In addition, he claimed that Sudhir had been attempting to drug Sonali for a while. Two months prior to her passing, he had also given her poisoned pudding. The most recent information in the case indicates that Sudhir Sangwan also had access to Sonali's passwords and secret lockers.
Police have now sealed the electronic locker after Sudhir was unable to enter the correct passwords to open it. The police have also found three diaries that contain information about BJP leaders and their expenses.
For the uninitiated, Phogat arrived in Goa on August 22 and was residing in an Anjuna hotel. At Curlie's restaurant in North Goa on the same night, Sonali went out to party with her PA Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh. However, under the guise of partying, Sudhir spiked Sonali's water and made her drink methamphetamine drugs (meth). After that, she expressed her discomfort and nausea in the restaurant.
Sangwan and Sukhwinder later drove her to the hotel where they were staying. Sonali was brought to St. Anthony hospital in Anjuna on Tuesday morning at around 8 a.m., where she was pronounced dead. Despite being accused of murder, Sudhir and Sukhwinder the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act charges the restaurant owner and drug dealer.
The Goa Police detained Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh on Thursday, August 25. Sangwan has admitted to the crime, said Inspector General of Police Omvir Singh Bishnoi during a press conference. The two have been given a 10-day police detention sentence.
More than 25 people have been questioned by the police thus far, including employees of the restaurant, the resort where Phogat was staying, the hospital where she was pronounced dead, and her driver. Yashodhara Phogat is the name of Sonali Phogat's daughter, who she has as a child.
