New Delhi: Former Team India batsman Sunil Gavaskar has raised questions over India's senior players taking 'rest' in international matches. Gavaskar says that these players, who never take a rest in the Indian Premier League (IPL), then why do they want to rest to play for the country. In fact, in the last few months, many Indian stars, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, have been rested, raising serious questions about the BCCI's selection policy.
Let us know that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not in good form, but still, the selectors have given them rest for the T20 series against South Africa first, then the T20 series against Ireland and now the ODI series against the West Indies. Selectors say that they want to reduce the workload of the players. In such a situation, former legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has said that 20-20 overs matches do not have much impact on your body.
Sunil Gavaskar further said, "Look, I don't agree with the resting players (during India's matches). Not at all. You're playing for the country. You don't rest during the IPL, but you take rest while playing for India. I don't agree with that. You have to play for India. Don't talk about rest. In the T20s, there are only 20 overs in an innings. It doesn't put too much burden on your body. In Test matches, there is a load on the mind and body, but there is no such problem in playing T20 cricket.''
