Supreme Court asks Centre to submit Rafale jet deal price details in 10 days

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday asked Central government to disclose information on Rafale deal which can be legitimately put in public domain and information on induction of Indian offset partner be furnished to petitioners who have filed PILs the price and other details of the controversial Rafale fighter jet deals in a sealed cover within 10 days to the apex court.

The top court clarified that it doesn't want technical details pertaining to Rafale deal. The Supreme Court added that the centre can decide to hold back any important information that cannot be made public.A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi was heard two PILs filed lawyers Manohar Lal Sharma and Vineet Dhanda on India's deal with France to pay money for the fighter jets.

Attorney General K K Venugopal told the top court that the pricing of the jet is something exclusive and can't be shared during the hearing. To this, the apex court asked the Pm Modi led centre to file an affidavit stating that the pricing of Rafale jet is exclusive and can't be shared with the Apex court.

Worth mention here the top court, on October 10, had directed the Centre to make available in a sealed cover the "details of the steps" taken in the decision-making process, without pricing and technical information, which led to the Rafale deal. On a related note Dassault Aviation is likely to deliver the 36 fighter jets to India from 2019.
