SC Justifies Transfer of Justice Tahilramani, 2000 lawyers decide to boycott work

New Delhi: Madras High Court Chief Justice Vijaya K Tahilramani resigned from her post after being angered by the transfer to the Meghalaya High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium. She urged the collegium to consider the decision twice. But the collegium denied any change in its decision. The case of Justice Tahilramani remains a matter of discussion in the media. An adverse report is being shown by the media on the decision of the Supreme Court Collegium.

The Supreme Court has also clarified its stand on this. The apex court justified the decision, saying that the transfers of judges are done for the betterment of judicial administration. The court said that this decision has been taken completely thoughtfully. The statement of the apex court said that it is not in the interest of the institute to make the recommendations of the collegium public, but if it becomes necessary court will not hesitate to make things public.

It is to be noted that on August 28, the collegium had recommended transfer of Madras High Court Chief Justice VK Tahilramani in Meghalaya High Court. Angered by this recommendation, Justice Tahilramani resigned on September 6. Lawyers have also come out in protest against this decision of the Supreme Court. In protest against this transfer, around 2000 lawyers from Latur district have decided to boycott work on Friday. Tahilramani hails from Latur in Marathwada region. Latur's lawyers are planning to file an appeal in the Supreme Court to protest against the decision.
