Supreme Court gives verdict on 215 cases through video conferencing

The Supreme Court of India has heard a total of 593 cases through video conferencing so far during the nationwide lockdown. Out of this, a decision has been given on 215 cases.

Due to the infectious Covid-19 spread across the country, the Supreme Court had closed its doors for petitions and lawyers on March 23, two days before the lockdown was declared. But in a new way i.e. with less staff, started the hearing of important cases online. On an average, the Supreme Court conducts an average of 3500 cases in a month.

During the lockdown, only two-three benches are hearing urgent cases in the virtual court room. Whereas under normal circumstances, 16 Benches of the Supreme Court are heard. According to the data provided by the court, between March 23 and April 24, a total of 87 bench have heard 593 cases. The Supreme Court disposed of 84 review petitions on 24 April. Of the 215 cases in which the verdict has been pronounced, 117 cases were related among themselves.
