Supreme Court orders on migrant laborers, says, 'Government should stop movement of workers'

New Delhi: The case of movement of migrant laborers between the Corona epidemic and lockdown has reached the top court. Hearing a public interest litigation, the Supreme Court has ordered the Central Government to investigate the matter and take action in the matter of labor movement between the two states.

During the hearing, the apex court asked how the information would be verified that the arrival of migrant laborers has not stopped. On this, the petitioner told the court that some state governments said that they will return people to their original villages, but no movement is allowed from the Ministry of Home Affairs. On giving information in this matter, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued guidelines regarding the workers.

It is noteworthy that in the past, the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued a standard operating system for the movement of workers. It was said that workers would not be allowed any kind of inter-state movement. Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla had said that due to the lockdown, the trapped laborers in different parts of the country would be allowed to visit their places of work within the state with certain conditions. However, during the extended lockdown till May 3, workers will not be allowed any kind of inter-state movement.
