Kochi: The top court has ordered the demolition of the illegal Maradu flats built along the seabed at Ernakulam in Kerala in 138 days as per the deadline given by the Kerala government. These flats are located in restricted coastal regulation zone-3 or CRZ-3. The investigation had found that many irregularities were committed in the matter of allowing construction in CRZ-3.

It has also come to the fore that the place where flats and buildings have been constructed is the most important area for seashore environmental protection. The Kerala government has set a deadline of January 9 to demolish all four highrise complexes. Controlled explosions will be done to demolish 325 flats built in 8 lakh sq ft so that there is minimal damage to the environment. Firstly, apartments named Jain Coral Cove will be demolished. Situated by Jain Housing and Constructions Ltd., this apartment has 16 floors for living and 2 floors for parking. Of these, there are 122 flats of 1,690 to 1,765 sq ft, which will be demolished first.

The demolition of these buildings will be done by Edifice Engineering of Mumbai. This company has special experience in demolishing buildings and factories. 250 kg powder gel explosive will be used to demolish this building. It will be installed at five places in the explosive ground floor columns for primary blast and three places in the columns of 1st, 3rd, 8th and 14th floors. For this, 32 mm diameter holes will be made in columns. It is being told that it will cost 2.3 crore to demolish it.
