New Delhi: The country's largest court has questioned the delay in sending a motion to President Ramnath Kovind to pardon the death sentence of Balwant Singh Rajoana, convicted in the case of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh murder case. The country's largest court questioned the Center when it will send the motion for clemency petition of Balwant Singh Rajoana to the President.

Balwant Singh Rajoana has not filed any appeal against the sentence and he has been serving the sentence in jail for the last 25 years. Others have filed a mercy petition on his behalf. During the hearing today, the apex court asked Additional Solicitor General KM Nataraj, appearing for the Center, to explain why this proposal has not been sent yet.

Former Punjab Police soldier Balwant Singh Rajoana was found guilty of the crime involved in the 1995 bomb blast outside the Punjab Secretariat. 17 other people including CM Beant Singh were killed in this blast. At that time this matter was in the news.
