New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday categorically refused to hear a petition challenging the validity of the PM Cares Fund. The petitioner had to withdraw his petition after the top court refused to hear the matter. However, the apex court, while advising the petitioner in this regard, said that if the petitioner wants, he can approach the Delhi High Court for a hearing.
The Supreme Court has refused to hear a petition challenging the validity of the PM Cares Fund, saying the petitioner can file a review petition in the Delhi High Court if he so wishes. At present, the petitioner has withdrawn his petition from the top court. It may be recalled that earlier in September last year, an affidavit filed in the Delhi High Court during a hearing had said that the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Emergency Relief Fund 'PM CARES' is not a fund of the Government of India and the money collected by it does not even go to the Consolidated Fund of India.
The undersecretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), which is working on an honorary basis in the PM Cares Trust, told the court that the trust functions with transparency and the auditor audit its funds. This auditor is a chartered accountant of a panel prepared by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).
