Supreme Court tightens its grip on pollution in Delhi-NCR, directs Air Quality Commission

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today heard the issue of environmental pollution in Delhi-NCR on Friday. During the hearing, the apex court allowed the Air Quality Management Commission in the National Capital Region (NCR) to decide on lifting the ban on construction activities and industrial activities within a week.

The Supreme Court ordered, 'We direct the Commission to examine the requests of various industries and organizations, which are on the basis of our orders or otherwise on the relaxation of conditions imposed on the basis of their circulars. We hope the Commission will look into it in a week.' The Supreme Court said the Air Quality Management Commission (AQMC) has to look into various applications and objections in a week and direct it to take necessary steps. At the same time, the court said that the commission will look into all other reliefs including opening of schools, opening of industrial units within a week and give a verdict. It will also submit a compliance report to the Supreme Court.

The apex court has kept the main petition and two applications pending with it, which will be heard later. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice (CJI) NV Ramanna is hearing the pollution case. During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel Vikas Singh said that the situation has improved but the case should be heard in view of the Delhi-NCR. So that the problem can be solved.
