Unnao gangrape: Supreme Court agrees to hear plea for CBI probe

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court (SC) has agreed to hear a plea for a CBI investigation into the Unnao gangrape case, in which a BJP UP MLA, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, is a prime accused person.

 According to TOI, The SC will hear the case next week. Also part of the plea by a lawyer is compensation for the rape victim's family. Worth mentioning here the victim's father died in judicial custody early on Monday. Also, the victim attempted self-immolation outside the home of UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Sunday accusing BJP MLA Sengar and his associates of gangraping her.

The woman's father, Pappu Singh died due to his injuries after he had been allegedly cruelly beaten by the MLA's brothers and followers on April 2.The rape survivor's relatives said they sent a hand-written letter to the Adityanath government in UP, anticipating a murder attempt on the survivor's imprisoned father.

The unpleasant incident has left the UP government apparently traumatized with the police department swinging into action; suspending six policemen along with four persons who were helpers to the MLA have been arrested.
