NEW DELHI:  The Supreme Court on Thursday took cognisance on its own over reports of a student going missing after levelling allegations of harassment against former union minister and BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand.  The hearing will be held in the top court today (October 30). Justice R. A bench of Pandora and Justice AS Bopanna will hear the case. Indeed, on Wednesday, a group of lawyers requested the Supreme Court to take cognisance. The schoolgirl had uploaded a video on social media last week accusing Chinmayand of being serious.

Shah Jahanpur police had registered an FIR against the former Union Minister on Tuesday (27th August) after the girl disappeared. It may be mentioned that on Wednesday (28th August), a group of lawyers had written to Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi seeking notice to the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and Principal of the college of Uttar Pradesh to trace the girl. Prosecutors have sought protection for the student and her family.

The girl's father has accused the former Union minister of sexual harassment in a complaint submitted to the police. Meanwhile, BJP leader Chinmayand's lawyer has claimed a conspiracy to blackmail. The schoolgirl's father says his daughter has been missing at the behest of 72-year-old Chinmayand. The former Union minister is also the head of the Mumukh Ashram. This student is a postgraduate student in the Ashram-run college.
