New Delhi: The Supreme Court is set to hear a series of pleas on July 8 regarding allegations of paper leaks and irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Under Graduate (NEET-UG) 2024 exam, which was held on May 5. According to the Supreme Court's cause list for July 8, these pleas will be heard by a bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.

Previously, the Supreme Court had asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to respond to pleas seeking a fresh NEET-UG 2024 examination due to the alleged paper leak. The court emphasized that the "sanctity" of the exam had been compromised and demanded an explanation from the NTA. The court had instructed the NTA to thoroughly address any negligence in conducting the NEET-UG 2024 exam.

On June 13, the Centre and the NTA informed the Supreme Court that they had canceled the grace marks awarded to 1,563 candidates. The affected candidates were given the option to either retake the exam on June 23 or forgo the compensatory marks given for the loss of time. A total of 813 students opted to retake the test, which was held across seven centers on June 23.

Several aspirants had approached the Supreme Court, raising concerns about the leakage of the question paper, the awarding of compensatory marks, and anomalies in the NEET-UG question paper. Multiple petitions were filed in the Supreme Court seeking an order to recall the NEET-UG 2024 results and conduct the examination afresh due to the alleged malpractices and paper leak.

The Supreme Court had previously declined to stay the NEET-UG 2024 counseling process. The NEET-UG exam, conducted by the NTA, is the gateway for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions across India.

The NEET-UG 2024 was conducted on May 5 across 4,750 centers, with approximately 24 lakh candidates appearing for the exam.
