New Delhi: The Supreme Court today delivered a key verdict on the monitoring of the Hathras gangrape and death case. According to the Supreme Court, the CBI probe will be monitored by the Allahabad High Court. The apex court said, after examining the case, the court will decide whether to transfer the case from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi.
According to the court, the CBI will report to the High Court. The victim's family in the Supreme Court had requested that the case be trial in Delhi. A bench comprising chief justice S A Boulder, Justice A S Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian had reserved its verdict on October 15 on a PIL and several other intervention petitions filed by activists and lawyers. The petitions argued that a fair trial was not possible in Uttar Pradesh, as the investigation has reportedly been affected.
A young woman in Hathras was murdered after her poverty. After which the police had cremated the body after all the protests. The Uttar Pradesh police had come under the purview of the case.
