New Delhi: Students appearing for the class 10 and 12 board exams on Wednesday received a major setback from the Supreme Court. The court heard petitions seeking cancellation of class 10 and 12 board exams and sought cancellation of the 'offline' board examinations for classes 10 and 12 to be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

At the same time, the court also dismissed a petition seeking cancellation of offline examinations conducted by ICSE and the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the students appearing in 10th and 12th standard and demanded that the examinations be held online. The petitioner had said that the examination should be ordered to be held as in the previous year.

The Supreme Court says that such petitions are misleading and give false hope to the students. A bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice CT Ravikumar said that considering your petition means creating more confusion. Already by filing this application in the name of Public Interest Litigation, there is a lot of confusion between the students and the parents.
