KOLKATA: A division bench of the Calcutta High Court's Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj, on Wednesday, dismissed a public interest litigation demanding the inclusion of the name of Suvendu Adhikari, in the ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the multi-billion Saradha chit fund scam. The division bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj of the Calcutta High Court made the decision.

The petitioner further sought that Adhikari be called to account and questioned by CBI investigators over his alleged involvement in the ponzi scheme. The corrupt Saradha Group chief Sudipto Sen's letter from prison in 2020, in which he claimed to be the victim of Suvendu Adhikari's ongoing extortion, served as the foundation for this PIL.

Suvendu Adhikari was accused of extortion by Sudipto Sen in that letter, but the CBI sleuths never called him in for an interview or summons, according to the petitioner's attorney, Ramaprasad Sarkar. While arguing in the case on Wednesday, Sarkar noted that "whereas the other powerful people named in the scheme were summoned, questioned, and some of them even faced incarceration."

Although the Saradha bubble burst over nine years ago, Adhikari's attorney Rajdeep Majumdar argued in his response that Sudipto Sen drafted the letter just a few months prior to the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections. So, it must be determined if he wrote that letter under political duress, as he claimed.

Dhiraj Tripathi, the counsel of CBI said that since the investigation is still on and if necessary, the investigation agency will summon and question all concerned who are under radar.
