New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DWC) chairperson Swati Maliwal's troubles seem to be increasing. Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has ordered the framing of charges against four people, including Swati Maliwal, in connection with irregularities in appointments at DWC. Maliwal is accused of appointing Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers to various posts in the women's rights body.

The court of Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh ordered the framing of charges against Swati Maliwal, commission members Promila Gupta, Sarika Chaudhary, and Farheen Malik under Section 120 (b) of the IPC and Sections 13(2), 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The judge, while hearing the matter, said that the minutes of meetings held by the DCW on different dates were signed by all the four accused, which prima facie raises suspicion that the appointments under consideration were made by these accused. There is enough evidence to frame charges against all of them.

The judge further said that none of the accused ever objected to the illegal appointments or even issued dissent notes, but rather claimed that unanimous decisions were taken in those meetings. The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) had registered a case in this regard on the complaint of former DCW chief and former BJP MLA Barkha Shukla Singh. The prosecution had claimed that 90 appointments were made to the DCW between August 6, 2015, and August 1, 2016. Of these, 71 people were appointed for contracts while 16 were appointed for the 'Dial 181' crisis helpline.
