NEW DELHI: In various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected until tomorrow, Tuesday, June 20.

From June 18 to 20, there is a possibility that areas of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Telangana will experience a heatwave to a severe heatwave. East Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and East Uttar Pradesh on June 18 & 19, according to a tweet from the weather service.

In Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, a brutal heatwave has also claimed the lives of over 90 people. Heatwave-related deaths have not yet been formally identified as the cause of death, though. A Lucknow-based investigation team is looking into the causes of deaths in the Ballia district.

The IMD alerts staying hydrated (even if you're not thirsty) and protecting yourself from the sun by using light-colored cotton clothing, an umbrella, sunglasses, etc.

The weather service has forecast extremely heavy falls over Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next few days, thus some locations will have reprieve from the oppressive heat.

According to the IMD's projection, the southwest monsoon will continue to progress over some more regions of the south peninsula, East India, and surrounding territories between June 19 and 22.

IMD has forecasted cloudy skies with light rain or thundershowers and gusty gusts for Delhi in regards to rainfall. On Sunday, the national capital's low temperature reached 28.6 degrees Celsius, which is somewhat higher than the seasonal average.

Under the influence of cyclonic storm Biparjoy, Rajasthan's Barmer district experienced severe rain on Sunday. Numerous locations also experienced severe flooding and waterlogging. There were severe gusts and rain.

The Brahmaputra River in Assam saw a surge in water level as a result of nonstop rain. On June 16, North Sikkim was also hit hard by rain, trapping tourists there. Heavy rains also lashed North Sikkim on June 16 which left tourists stranded.
