Patna: Due to the prevailing heat wave, the Patna District Magistrate has suspended all academic activities up to Class 12 in Patna. The directive is valid until June 24.

In keeping with the directive contained in Memo No. 8274/L of June 11, 2023, it has been suggested to me that children's health and lives are at danger because of the district's ongoing heat wave and high temperatures. In accordance with Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure from 1973, I, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Singh, District Magistrate of Patna, hereby ban academic activities in all private and public schools in the Patna District up to and including Class XII till June 24, 2023. read the circular from the Patna District Magistrate.

"The aforementioned order will go into effect on June 19, 2023, and it will be in effect until June 24, 2023. This order has been approved on June 16, 2023, and it has both my signature and the court's seal, as per the circular.
For select districts during the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts. The IMD issued an orange notice earlier on Tuesday for the following five days.

In Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, the temperature may get as high as 40 to 45 in the next days, said IMD scientist Naresh Kumar. In Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh, the heat wave is still going strong. For the next five days, this area is under an orange alert.

In response to the extreme heatwave in the state, the Jharkhand government stated on Wednesday that all schools (up to Class 8) in the state will remain closed till June 17. It added that Classes 9 through 12 would remain closed until June 15.
"While making partial amendments and due to excessive heat in the state of Jharkhand and keeping in mind the heat, all categories of government-run in the state, Unaided/Unaided (including Minorities), and all from class KG to class 8 in private schools, Date - June 17 (Saturday) will remain closed and classes from class 9 to 12 until June 15," the School Education and Literacy Department of the Jharkhand Government stated in a circular notification.

The announcement further stated that the decision regarding the students' loss of study time for the specified period will be made by the education department. "A separate decision in this regard will be communicated. This is to make up for the loss in the children's education during this period. It stated that "this order shall be effective immediately."
