Swiss Open 2024: Treesa-Gayatri Pair Knocked Out in Quarter-Finals; Kidambi Srikanth Advances to Semis

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand faced a disappointing defeat in the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open 2024 in Basel. The Indian women's doubles duo succumbed to Australia’s Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu in a swift match lasting just 35 minutes. The final scoreline stood at 14-21, 15-21, favoring the Australian pair.

Struggling right from the start, Treesa and Gayatri found it challenging to keep up with Mapasa and Yu, who comfortably secured their victory. This loss marks the end of Treesa and Gayatri's journey in the women's doubles category at the tournament.

Meanwhile, in the men's singles, former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth showcased his prowess by defeating Lee Chia Hao from Chinese Taipei with a score of 21-10, 21-14. Srikanth's triumph earned him a spot in the semi-finals, further advancing his campaign in the Swiss Open 2024.

On the Olympic front, Treesa and Gayatri currently hold the 14th spot in the qualification rankings. However, this defeat deals a blow to their prospects of securing a berth in the upcoming Paris Olympics later this year. In the doubles category, only two pairs can qualify if they both rank within the top 8 by the end of April. Otherwise, the top-ranked pair within the world's top 16 will earn the Olympic qualification.
